ADELAIDE CRICKET CLUB
There is a natural progression to grade cricket which is outlined below, “Pathway to Grade Cricket at ACC” Milo In2 Cricket, School Cricket and Community / Club cricket.
If you are successful in being selected to play for the ACC in the Grade Cricket competition you have the opportunity to play in a variety of competitions, Under 12 Statewide, Ray Sutton Shield, Under 14 & 16 and Under 17 Shield competitions. A brief explanation of each competition can be found below:
Under 12 Statewide Cup (December)
The BankSA Under 12 Statewide Cup competition which is played in December each year, is used to identify players for the SAPSASA State team in the following season. The aim is to have the ‘best playing against the best’ during these matches, with all the most talented country and metropolitan cricketers participating.
The BankSA Under 12 Statewide Cup includes teams from the 12 Grade Clubs plus the two country representative teams – known as Country Red and Country Black. Players in these two country teams have been selected based on their performance during the BankSA Under 12 Country Carnival held in Adelaide during November, prior to the Statewide Cup.
ACC Buffalos Development Squad – Junior Buffs
Under 12 players that are not selected in the Ray Sutton and Under 14 squads will be asked to join the Adelaide CC Buffalos Development Squad, called the Junior Buffs. The Junior Buffs will receive specialist and technical training on a regular basis throughout the season (every two weeks).
The Junior Buffs is a development program that is run throughout the cricket season providing specialist training and preparing young cricketers for Under 12 and 14 Premier League Cricket at Adelaide Cricket Club. Appleton Sports runs the Junior Buffs program and provides high qualified and experienced coaches. Appleton Sports is the leading cricket training provider within South Australia.
Under 13 Ray Sutton Shield
The Ray Sutton Shield competition acts an introduction for young cricketers to Grade cricket. The twelve premier cricket clubs (excluding Adelaide University) are split into two geographical zones with games exhibiting the best primary school cricketers from each zone.
Teams play each team in their zone once, with the two top teams from each zone playing off on a grand final. The games are played every Sunday afternoon for the first six weeks of the year and are played mostly on 1st Grade turf wickets providing young cricketers with the best Premier Club facilities.
Adelaide Cricket Club – Under 14 & 16
Welcome to South Australian Premier Cricket.
If you are selected in Adelaide CC’s Under 14 and Under 16 squads, you will have the opportunity to play Premier cricket, which is played every Saturday afternoon throughout the season.
Playing junior premier cricket not only provides you a pathway to senior premier cricket (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Grade) but also provides a pathway to be selected for State Junior cricket teams. There are state cricket teams in the Under 12 (SAPSASA), 15, 17 and 19 age groups.
BankSA Under 17 Shield
The BankSA Under 17 Shield competition is a 10 day competition played each year in January and is used to identify players for the State Under 17 team. This competition includes teams from the 12 Premier Clubs plus the two country representative teams – known as Country Red and Country Black.
Pathway to Premier Cricket at ACC
Milo In2 Cricket
This is an entry level program for girls and boys where drills and games are run by center coordinators to introduce participants to Basic techniques and the enjoyment of playing the game of cricket.
Primary School Cricket
The ACC in partnership with SACA run the Adelaide Primary School competition for schools that fall with the ACC zone. School cricket is open to both girls and boys and has the following grades:
· Kanga Cricket – Year 2-3 / Junior and Senior grades
· Junior Cricket – Years 4-5 / Combination of C & B Grades
· Senior Cricket – Years 6-7 / Combination of B & A Grades
Kanga Cricket – provides a structured at safe, introductory level of cricket that can be played by boys and girls. The game is played with a soft rubber ball and plastic bats and is about participation and enjoyment where every player gets an equal opportunity to bat, bowl and field. It is played every Friday night during the cricket season at ACC home ground, Glandore Oval.
Junior School Cricket (C & B Grades) – this level of cricket is where players first play on a full length cricket pitch played with a hard plastic (PVC) ball. Batsmen wear pads, helmets and cricket protectors making a very safe introduction to “proper” cricket. Batsmen bat in pairs for 4 overs and continue to bat even if they get out, with the emphasis on participation. All players get a bowl, bat and field.
Senior School Cricket (A Grade) – this is where cricket is first played under normal rules where if you get out as a batsman you are out and don’t continue to bat. Batsmen learn to value their wicket, and all play under normal rules of cricket. This is a great level of cricket that prepares young cricketers for the next level of cricket be it community or grade cricket.
Please contact you school cricket coordinator for details on how to join your school cricket team.
Community Cricket
Community Cricket is played every Sunday and not only provides a pathway to premier cricket but also providers premier cricketers with an opportunity to play more cricket. Over 80% of junior premier cricketers that play on Saturday afternoon also play Community Cricket on Sundays. Both girls and boys can play community cricket.
Also Community Cricket provides an opportunity for young cricketers that are not yet selected in premier cricket to play and belong to a club that they can play with for the rest of their life.
Community Cricket has grades in the Under 11, 13, 15 and 17 competitions which also provides opportunities for players to play association level cricket against other community cricket associations.
The community clubs that are in the Adelaide Cricket Club zone are Edwardstown, Flagstaff Hill, Goodwood, Happy Valley, Marion, Mitchell Park and Plympton Footballers
